CRETE. Gortyna. Circa 245-221 BC. AE (Bronze, 25 mm, 8.49 g, 1 h). Diademed bust of Artemis to right, bow and quiver over her shoulder; on neck, countermark: Δ above head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet, within circular incuse. Rev. ΓOPTYN[IΩN] Bull standing left, head turned back to right; all within wreath. BMC 63-4 var. (no countermark). Jackson p. 51 and pl. 12, 9. SNG Copenhagen 458 var. (no countermark). Svoronos 108. Rare. Faint scratches and some flatness from countermarking on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
